In case a book out of the stock of the Viennese public library isn’t borrowed over a period of two years it is removed from the library catalog. These “forgotten” books are moved to a new context and put to the focal point of public interest again.
They are turned to some page, arranged in a line on a display, and thus are presented with their inside turned out.
Thereby the private space of books turns into the public space. Sections, sentences, words and pictures are marked at the window display creating a new content. The identity of each book is deconstructed. Instead the new constellation results in a new context and a new meaning.
As a result a reevaluation becomes possible. New stories and alternative perspectives develop.
The books of the installation start to correspond to each other.
As a window display installation this project can also be seen as a platform to activate interaction and public communication.
